Alfred State College honors Foundation

Alfred State College recently honored the Bethesda Foundation for its continued support of the College and its nursing program, awarding the Foundation the President’s Medallion at the President’s Society Dinner held Oct. 21, 2022.

Lynn Blades, president of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, was honored at the dinner along with Jay Pullman, vice president, and Rob Price, Executive Director of the Foundation.

In presenting the President’s Medallion, Alfred State College President Dr. Steven Mauro noted the Foundation has consecutively provided funding to Alfred State College for 29 years. It has contributed more than $325,000 to nursing students through annual scholarships.

The Foundation also was instrumental in the implementation of ASC’s Radiologic Technology Program, contributing $50,000 in 20125 to help defray the costs associated with purchasing equipment. More recently, the Foundation in 2022 awarded a $43,000 grant to ASC in support of its purchase of an obstetric training manikin.

“On behalf of the entire campus community, we are proud to honor the Bethesda Foundation,” Mauro said, “and we are privileged to count you as a leader and loyal supporter of Alfred State College, and a close friend.”

In accepting the award, Price honored former Bethesda Foundation Executive Director Janice Spence, who shepherded the ASC grant application through reviews by the Foundation’s Grants Committee and the Board of Trustees.

Price also thanked Alfred State College for its continuing efforts to support healthcare in the region, notably through its training and graduating of much-needed nursing students.

“The Foundation regards its support of this program as a major part of our commitment to healthcare in this area,” Price said, noting the Foundation focuses on the 30-mile radius of the old Bethesda Hospital. “So, for everything you do in the area that is very dear to us, we extend our gratitude.”
